5000 years ago in the mythical garden of china’s third emperor--Huang-Di, emerged the legend of silk. On a morning stroll through his gardens, Huang-Di discovered a disturbance in his grove of mulberry trees. Perturbed by the half eaten leaves he articulated the situation to his fair wife--princess Xi-Ling-Ji.
Distraught from her husband’s displeasure Xi-Ling-Ji sought to resolve his concern. The following sunrise the princess and her handmaidens strolled through the mulberry grove inspecting the trees.
Unsuccessful with her search, she sat resting under a mulberry tree. Hoping to soothe her worries her handmaidens served her tea. As she sipped her hot cup of tea pondering the possibilities of the disharmony, a cocoon fell into her tea cup. She called to her handmaidens and they all watched in astonishment as the cocoon began to unravel, revealing a fine lustrous thread. Enamoured by its beauty she unwound the cocoon further, discovering the length and strength of the exquisite thread.
For thousands of years the secret of silk was kept. Regarded as the finest luxurious cloth, silk was prized and originally only available to the emperor.
Today Summit Silk Bedding carries on the tradition, offering all the luxuries of silk in our silk bedding collections.
